CAEx Build & Co. and CAU to Present a Session on Cultural Heritage in Contemporary Architecture
As part of the business programme of CAEx Build & Co. 2026, a session titled “Designing with Memory: Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Urban Spaces” will be held in collaboration with Central Asian University (CAU).
The session will be led by Dr. Ansam Bzour, Ph.D., MLA, Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture & Design at Central Asian University, architect, and landscape architect specializing in cultural landscapes, spatial design, and the relationship between people and their environment.
The presentation will explore the role of cultural memory and place identity in shaping contemporary urban environments. Participants will learn how tangible and intangible heritage, historic urban patterns, and local context can inform the design of architectural projects, landscapes, and public spaces.
Particular attention will be given to approaches that balance heritage preservation with the contemporary needs of urban communities. This topic is especially relevant to cities undergoing development and transformation while seeking to preserve their historical character and create comfortable environments for everyday life.
Dr. Bzour holds a Ph.D. from MATE University in Hungary. Her academic and professional experience spans architecture, landscape architecture, spatial analysis, and design education. Her research explores the cultural dimensions of transboundary rivers and border landscapes, including territories affected by political conflict. At CAU, she teaches architectural design and the design of complex multi-storey buildings.
The session will bring together research-based insights and practical perspectives on urban development, encouraging professional discussion on how historical context can inform contemporary architectural and landscape design.
